Carma worked tonight, even though she didn’t want to. A couple of weeks passed since that night with Enzo, and her mood had been sour ever since. He did not call her, and she did not know how she felt about it. Things seemed good between her and Zay, but he had no idea how torn she was.

She adjusted some menus and looked at her watch, anticipating a slow night. She twisted the diamond stud in her ear, and thought about taking finals for the last time.

“Carma,” She turned, immediately able to pick up on the male voice speaking to her. It was Felix. Lucky for her, Zay hadn‘t brought them back in the same company. “Working tonight?”

She put her smile on, “Hi, Felix.”

“What’s good?” he took off his suede jacket, and handed it to her. She gave him his ticket, hoping he would move along. He looked her up and down before he realized it. “Where’s my boy tonight?” he lingered, and she wondered if he was waiting on anyone, or just set on bothering her.

“He’s home, working on his dissertation,” she kept it professional. “Were you waiting on someone to join you?”

“You know, you’ve always looked so familiar to me,” he frowned and picked up one of the silver packaged mints that were for guests who were on their way out.

Carma hated when a man said she was familiar to him, because somewhere in the back of her mind, she thought that maybe they were. And this was his second time saying it. Her smile disappeared. “We don’t know each other.”

He held up his hands. “Are you sure?”

Her smile came back, but it was strained. “Positive.”

The tension was thick between them. He finally clasped his hands together. “I’m meeting someone at the bar. It’s always good to see you, Carma.”

She watched him walk off. He joined company with a woman who waited for him impatiently and gave her the evil eye. She swallowed, and the taste of bile formed in her throat. Carma closed her eyes, and swore to herself. Suddenly, she knew why she was memorable to him. She gave up plenty of lap dances those four months she worked at the club, but not even half were private dances.

He was at a party she did once. She only did a few parties, and all of them were at the insistence of Hazel after she’d been requested repeatedly. Private parties, mainly thrown by celebrities or entertainment executives, were the real way to bring in some major bank. These men were extremely wealthy, and they knew their money could buy them just about anything, or anyone.
